This workshop will introduce participants to linked open data and how to experiment with linked open data using Wikidata. Wikidata is a free, collaborative, and multilingual knowledge base for Wikimedia projects, such as Wikipedia and Wikimedia. Wikidata provides archival repositories with an opportunity to make local collections more discoverable online, and to highlight links between these collections. Participants will learn what Wikidata is, how the archival community is using and contributing to Wikidata, and experiment with creating and editing in the platform. The workshop will demonstrate how linked open data, and Wikidata, provide greater access to archival collections. By the end of the workshop, participants will: understand what linked open data and Wikidata are; create a Wikidata account; and experiment with adding and editing entries. Participants are not expected to have any previous experience with Wikidata.

This workshop is hosted by the International Council on Archives (ICA) Section on Archives of Literature and Art and is supported by the ICA Programme Commission. This virtual session will be delivered in English. Interpretation into other languages will not be provided.
